Saying Goodbye to the Trees

27th May 2026

Earlier this year, following storm damage, concerns were raised about the safety and condition of the line of Leylandii trees on the school grounds.

The school’s insurers requested that the trees be independently checked by a tree surgeon. Following this assessment, it was found that the trees were unsafe due to their condition and height and that they needed to be removed on health and safety grounds.

Before the works began, a final tree safety inspection and nesting season assessment was also carried out.

The trees had been a familiar part of the area for many years and many children will remember them as part of the school grounds. However, the Board of Management has a responsibility to keep the school grounds safe and to act on the professional advice received.
