The Irish Sri Lanka Trust Fund was founded in December 2004 in response to the needs of surviving victims of the tsunami that hit the coast of Sri Lanka on December 26th 2004. The members are made up of Irish citizens and residents, all of whom have a connection to Sri Lanka through birth, marriage or friendship and who wish to help Sri Lankan survivors of the tsunami disaster reclaim their futures.

One of the immediate needs arising from the disaster was the purchase of new fishing boats for the Sri-Lankan fishing community. Clogherhead being a fishing village, Callystown N.S. and Walshestown N.S. decided together to try raising enough money to fund the purchase of a fibre-glass fishing boat, used by members of the fishing community in Sri Lanka, through the Irish Sri Lanka Trust Fund Buy a Boat Project. The cost of the boat was €3,000. Of this Callystown N.S. opted to raise €2,000 with Walshestown hoping to raise €1,000. The children of both schools started bringing in money during the season of Lent. By the time the Easter holidays had come both schools had reached figures in excess of their original targets - a fantastic achievement.

Well done to all concerned especially those who contributed and of course those who counted the money!

........and this is the boat itself !
