THIRD & FOURTH CLASS 2005-2006

Our visit to Clogherhead Lifeboat

On Tuesday afternoon we visited the lifeboat station. We met two men from the lifeboat crew called Peter and Pádraig and two girls called Sinéad and Aoife. First we went upstairs to see the lifejackets and a member of the lifeboat's suit. We saw huge oars that Peter told us were used by the ladies years ago to row the old lifeboats because they had no engines. Pádraig showed us a video of a rescue, five weeks ago. Then we went into the lifeboat and Pádraig told us about how to steer the lifeboat. We went into another place in the lifeboat and on our way to it we saw the engine of the lifeboat. After that we went downstairs and got our photo taken. then we walked back to school. It was a great visit.

Our Visit to the Lifeboat

On Tuesday 13th June, 3rd and 4th class went down to the lifeboat station in Clogherhead. The walk down was peaceful and the walk back was just as nice. Peter Walshe introduced us to himself and Pádraig Rath. Peter brought us into the lifeboat station and was telling us that the most important piece of gear that you should wear is a lifejacket. It was good when he was telling us when someone was in trouble that ten women did go out on a paddle boat and try to save them. The bit that I liked best was when we went on the lifeboat and Pádraig showed us the engine-room. The bit that I thought was the funniest was when Mr. Barnes had to try to put all the gear on in twenty seconds, although he didn't do it. It was a really fun day.

Our Trip to the Lifeboat Station

Today my classmates and I went on a trip to the lifeboat station with our teacher, Mr. Barnes. It was an important lesson, as most of us live in Clogherhead, by or near the beach. The volunteers at the station explained to us about water safety. They also showed us a sample of first aid. Then we had a look around the actual lifeboat. after being shown the control room, we made our way through the engine-room to the survivor's room. we then climbed up the ladder to the top of the boat and joined up with each other. It was a great experience and we learned a lot about safety at sea.

The Land of Trees

Trees are big and wonderful,

Standing in the ground,

Very, very quietly,

Making the slightest sound.

Their leaves are really colourful,

Swaying in the breeze.

Branches spreading long and wide

In winter they almost freeze.

A tree can never grow too tall,

Reaching for the sky

Most animals love them

And so do I.
